Press release from family and SARI
To all who knew and loved Batook,
You will have heard by now that Batook passed away yesterday, Sunday 16th February 2014, peacefully in his sleep.
You may also have heard of their being prayers and condolences at the Hindu Temple tomorrow, Tuesday 18th February 2014 at 7.30 pm. This has been communicated quite widely.
In order to ensure that Temple has capacity for family and close community, and to allow for the worship to take place, we ask respectfully on behalf of his family and the Temple that only family and close community members attend.
For all other friends of Batook including the agencies and key professionals he worked with, of which there are many, there will be a celebration of his life next week. We will be ensuring this is communicated to all as soon as we have the details confirmed. This is where Batook would like all those who knew and worked with him to come and be joyful and remember his huge sense of fun.
We would like to thank everyone for the huge amount of care and concern that has been shown to Batook’s family and to SARI.
Esther Deans MBE, Chair of SARI, Alex Raikes MBE, and Agnes Yeomans on behalf of all at SARI.

Batook Pandya - Sunday 16th February 2014
"Batook passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Sunday 16th February 2014. Batook was a much loved figure in the community with a character larger than life, and this will leave a huge hole for Bristol and all those who knew and loved him. Batook’s tireless campaign to make a difference and unstoppable passion and dedication for fighting for equality for all has been his life’s work. This has seen SARI grow from strength to strength and touched so many lives. He leaves behind a great legacy.
While Batook is a loss to us all, we would like to respect his family’s privacy at this difficult time. The family ask that instead of buying flowers, if any one wishes to donate, they should do so to a Heart or Diabetes Charity. They will be naming their chosen charities soon.
If you would like to pay your respects or wish to pass on any cards or messages or for any press enquiries please contact SARI, PO Box 2454, Bristol, BS2 2WX or contact Alex or Agnes on
or call us on 0117 942 0060".
